   DANDELION

Yeah, the same plant
you're digging out of your lawn. . .

David Hoffman writes: "Dandelion leaf is a very powerful diuretic, its action comparable to that of the drug `Frusemide'. The usual effect of a drug stimulating the kidney function is a loss of vital potassium from the body, which aggravates any cardio-vascular problem present. With Dandelion, however, we have one of the best natural sources of potassium."

According to OnHealth Herbal Network Company, "Dandelion root was formerly official in the United States National Formulary (Leung and Foster, 1996). It is officially listed in the national pharmacopeias of Austria and the Czech Republic, and also in the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia, the British Herbal Pharmacopoeia, the British Herbal Compendium, the German Pharmacopoeial Codex, the German Standard License," as well as others.

Mowrey in Validation of Herbal Medicine, writes that it improves "kidney function, especially that organ’s ability to cleanse the blood and resorb nutrients." In the German treatise, Herbal Medicine by Rudolf Weiss, we read that dandelion benefits cell function throughout the body, which is “"why lithiasis, i.e. gallstones and kidney stones, often respond well to dandelion."  The Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine sums it up best:  "Working principally on the liver and gallbladder to help remove waste products, it also stimulates the kidneys to remove toxins in the urine.. . . . a remarkably well-balanced remedy."
