 Water

When you don't drink enough water, where can your body get what it needs?
If you read the section on Everybody Poops, you know that just before you eliminate your waste, your large intestine will absorb water from what's there. When does it absorb water? When you're not drinking enough. The result? Constipation. If you are taking herbal remedies for constipation, you've got to add water for the herbs to do their job.

What kind of water is best for you?

Most people agree that tap water nowadays, in most locations, contains chemicals and other pollutants that can threaten your health. Lots of people buy bottled water or install some kind of water filter in their homes. Many health practitioners say that reverse osmosis filters work the best, but probably any filter is better than none. It is better to avoid distilled water as a regular source because it is known to leach minerals from the body.

How much water do you need?

Convention wisdom says eight glasses a day, but health practitioners have recommended one ounce of water per pound of body weight. In practical terms, this can amount to ten, twelve, or even sixteen glasses of water a day. If you don't get enough water, along with constipation come frequent headaches. Often when you get a headache, if you can drink about four cups of water and get a bowel movement, your headache will disappear!
